We are often asked about the best way to connect an external application to Smartstore. As important as this question is, unfortunately it cannot be answered in a generalised way. This article describes the different ways of data exchange and shop connectivity.

The Smartstore Web API is based on OData (Open Data Protocol), a standard for retrieving data using REST conventions. Starting with version 4.1, the Smartstore Web API supports the greatly expanded version 4 of OData.

The Smartstore Web API allows direct access to the data of an online store. It is built on the most recent technologies Microsoft offers for web based data consuming, the ASP.NET Web API and the OData provider. Crafting Interfaces that Developers Love
