The customer in the driver's seat - on the added value of e-commerce platforms for Industry 4.0

The success of Industrie 4.0 production is essentially based on the quantity and quality of the data available to the digital control and planning systems. For a long time, these came almost exclusively from production. Now, however, data from purchasing and sales can also be used to optimize production processes. An Industrie 4.0-compliant e-commerce platform is used for this purpose.

The performance and effectiveness of Industrie 4.0 is essentially based on the digitization and networking of machines, processes and products, or more precisely: on the continuous exchange of high-quality data that makes automatic planning and control of production possible in the first place.

To date, most of this data still comes from production. The manufacturing machines in an Industrie 4.0 are generally digitized, equipped with various sensors and networked with the central planning and control units of production.

In this way, data can be collected on process speed, heat generation, noise and vibration development. On this basis, the control systems can then automatically operate and coordinate the production equipment, optimize production processes, detect malfunctions at an early stage and initiate maintenance work in good time.
